D.W. Smith Fellowship
The D. W. Smith committee is pleased to award this year’s fellowship to Flora Amann for her project on Pierre Desloges’ Observations d’un sourd et muet (1779). The first known text published by a deaf author in France, the Observations provides valuable insight into the history of deafness and the Deaf community. Amann will be producing a critical edition of this text, an undertaking for which her she is demonstrably well equipped. Her application positions her project conscientiously, outlines her plans clearly, and specifies her budget precisely. The D. W. Smith fellowship will cover some of her conference travel costs and publication costs. We look forward to seeing this project develop.
