We are delighted to announce the recipient of the D.W. Smith Fellowship for 2026, awarded yearly by the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies to promote research into the eighteenth century.

Eleonora Alfano, post-doctoral researcher at McGill University, was selected for her project entitled "Lumières sous les voiles": Pour une cartographie québécoise des ouvrages de femmes philosophes et de la Querelle des femmes jusqu’au Tournant des Lumières.
This project, combining research in the history of philosophy with archival research, aims to map out the foundational texts of the history of feminism, as well as the philosophical works of women from the early modern period, within various historical collections in Quebec. This will be the very first systematic study focused on identifying the presence of these documents in Quebec’s historical collections. This inquiry will then lead to groundbreaking research into the circulation and reception of these works throughout colonial history.
