We are delighted to announce the very first recipient of the Peter Sabor Fellowship, awarded by the Burney Society of North America and the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies to promote editing projects in eighteenth-century studies.

On this, the 250^th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, the Canadian Institute for Historical Education (CIHE) is seeking the delivery of an approximately 20,000 word research paper related to how the formation of that country led to or influenced the later formation of Canada.

We would like to draw your attention to two fellowships whose deadlines are approaching, and to provide an update on a third award. We encourage you to share this message with eligible colleagues and students.

Un volume collectif en hommage à Benoît Melançon, professeur émérite de l’Université de Montréal, paraîtra en 2026 aux Presses de l’Université de Montréal et réunira 27 textes écrits par d’anciens étudiants et collègues.

Building on the work of the Ad Hoc Committee on Decolonization (2018–2022), the mandate of the Ad Hoc Committee on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), created in Fall 2023, was to coordinate a consultation process aimed at identifying the CSECS’s EDI priorities.

The committee formulated three proposals, that were adopted at the last CSECS General Assembly to guide future work towards EDI.

The Robert and Moira Sansom Ideas Foundation was established in 2013 with the intention to create a Graduate Student Scholarship for Studies in the History of Ideas, granting $10,000 each year in support of the work of the recipient. The scholarship is open to graduate students, who are or will be studying at a university in Canada, whose work relates to the History of Ideas.

At the most recent annual general meeting of CSECS, the following collagues were appointed as new members of the Society’s Executive Committee: Fraser Easton (President), Nicholas Dion (Treasurer), Philippe Sarrasin-Robichaud (Secretary), and Alicia L. Kerfoot (ASECS Delegate) .

The Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies announces the appointment of Peter Sabor as an Honorary Member of the Society. This appointment coincides with the creation of the Peter Sabor Fellowship, designed to encourage and support editorial projects related to the eighteenth century.
